For the performer and artist Watutsi, there is no border between music, dance, theatre and painting; between spirituality and politics. As one of the first Rastas in his home town in Salvador, Brazil, Watutsi went into a church, barefoot and wearing traditional African clothing, to declare: “This is not the house of God. God is everywhere!” As a Alabé and master of Capoeira, Watutsi has his feet planted in the traditions of his African forebears. Stephanie Bangoura learned, lived and worked with Watutsi when she began her dance career. As for many other artists he was a great source of inspiration, support and encouragement for her. In Salvador, Watutsi is one of the pioneers of the Black Movement. Watutsi lives in Hamburg and gives dance, capoeira and percussion workshops.
